Jane Thompson
Jane Thompson came to painting later in life after a career as a writer and teacher. Words, once her tool, seemed to leave her after the death of her mother and she began to express herself using paint.
She soon became completely absorbed and found that the issues and concerns which had moved and motivated her for most of her life, to do with human resilience and the significance of place, came bursting through into her paintings. She is most interested in trying to make art from everyday experience, the company of others and what makes people tick.
Jane has always been interested in the creative energy of autodidacts, Outsider artists like Alfred Wallis and the Pitmen Painters and German Expressionism. Thus far in Jane's artistic career she has been preoccupied with figurative work.
Jane works full time from her garden studio in The New Forest, Hampshire.
